About PDF to Text

Copy all the text out of a PDF as a plain .txt file, for searching, quoting or pasting into another document.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the result empty?

The PDF is probably a scan: its pages are pictures of text, not text. Extracting that needs OCR, which this tool doesn't do.

Why are some words joined or out of order?

PDFs store text as positioned fragments, not paragraphs. Multi-column layouts and tables can come out in reading order that differs from what you see; try the layout option.

Are my files uploaded?

No. PDF to Text runs entirely in your browser: your files are processed on your device and never sent to a server.

Is it free?

Yes. It's free, with no sign-up, no watermarks and no daily limits.

Is there a file size limit?

There's no upload limit, because nothing is uploaded. Very large files are limited only by your device's memory.
