Can a watermark be removed?
It's drawn into the page content, so it can't be switched off like a comment. Someone with PDF editing software could still remove it, as with any watermark.
Will the watermark hide my content?
Lower the opacity to keep the page readable underneath; around 20–30% works well for text watermarks.
Are my files uploaded?
